Kristen Kleiman Director of Investments and Acquisitions Kristen is responsible for identifying and negotiating acquisitions for the Timber team. She has more than twenty years of acquisition experience, with ten years specializing in global timberland, with a particular focus on Africa and Austral-Asia. She recently sourced and closed one of the first TIMO investments in East Africa, capitalizing on her experience living and traveling in sub-Saharan Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer in the early 1990’s. She is fluent in Setswana. She has closed timberland transactions in both Australia and New Zealand totaling over $500M. Most recently, she co-led Phaunos’ largest acquisition to date, an investment in New Zealand’s third largest forest estate. Previously she worked for Hancock Timber Resource Group as an Acquisitions Analyst and Manager recommending potential timberland acquisitions for the portfolios of major institutional investors. In addition to Kristen’s experience in sourcing and negotiating acquisitions, she has held pivotal roles in managing and developing investment models to determine valuation, and managing ongoing investments within the portfolio. Kristen has an MS in Forest Ecology from the University of Michigan and a BS in Finance & Investments from Babson College.
