Henry Whittemore Director of Investments and Acquisitions
Henry identifies and negotiates acquisitions for the Timber team. Henry has twenty years of timberland acquisition experience, with focus on North America, Austral-Asia and Eastern Europe. He has sourced and closed one of the first TIMO investments in a wood pellet manufacturing plant in Serbia and negotiated numerous timberland transactions in Eastern Europe. He has closed timberland transactions in North America, Australia and New Zealand totaling over $750M. Most recently, he co-led Phaunos’ largest acquisition to date, an investment in New Zealand’s third largest forest estate. Previously, Henry worked for Hancock Timber Resource Group as Northeast Regional Manager and Portfolio Manager. In addition to the acquisition and investment management roles, he serves as Phaunos’ environmental officer to ensure operational controls in forest management and conformance to the principles of the Forest Stewardship Council. From 1978 to 1981, Henry served in the United States Peace Corps in the Kingdom of Tonga as an agro-forestry volunteer. He is fluent in Tongan and conversant in French and German. He holds a BA in History and Environmental Studies from Williams College and a Masters in Forestry from Yale University, School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. |
